For years, Kāinga Ora’s First Home Grants have helped many buyers achieve homeownership by meeting specific house price caps. However, as of May 22, 2024, these grants are no longer available.
Initially, the Government announced a complete halt on new applications. However, exceptions are now in place for a limited group of first-home buyers who meet the following criteria:
- Pre-Approval Expired: Your pre-approval for a First Home Grant expired on or before May 22, 2024.
- Signed Agreement: You had signed a sale and purchase agreement on or before May 22, 2024.
These exemptions were available for a brief period, with notifications due by 11:59 pm on June 14, 2024.
